Barcelona have officially confirmed the transfer of young defender Jofre Torrents to Ajax, making him the second Blaugrana player to swap Catalonia for Amsterdam this summer after goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.

The 19-year-old, who had long been held in high regard at La Masia, has signed a contract with the Eredivisie side running until 2030. Torrents' name had surfaced prominently in media headlines over recent weeks after Barcelona made clear they were willing to listen to offers for the talented youngster.

Dutch heavyweights Ajax wasted little time in declaring their interest, building on the relationship established during ter Stegen's loan move earlier in the window. Negotiations between the two clubs have now officially borne fruit.

In a statement across Barcelona's website and social media platforms, the club said: 'FC Barcelona would like to thank Jofre Torrents for his commitment, professionalism and dedication throughout all these years representing the Club, and wishes him the very best of luck and every success in this new stage of his professional career.'

Ajax technical director Jordi Cruyff expressed his delight at securing the signing, telling the club's website: "Jofre is a highly talented player who has developed strongly over the past few years. We are delighted to have secured his signing for Ajax. A number of clubs were interested in him, but he made a very conscious decision to choose our plans and vision. We look forward to taking the next steps together with him."

According to reports, Ajax have paid approximately €5-6 million for 50% of the defender's playing rights, with Barcelona retaining the other 50% — a deal structure that could benefit the La Liga giants further down the line should Torrents' value continue to rise.

The transfer marks Barcelona's second sale in the space of 24 hours as the club continues to reshape its squad and generate funds ahead of the new season.
