Yash's roaring comeback delivers record debut

Rocking Star Yash has rewritten box office history once again. His highly anticipated return to the big screen, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, stormed into cinemas on Wednesday and obliterated expectations, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark in India on its very first day.

According to Sacnilk, the Geetu Mohandas directorial has earned an estimated Rs 101.10 crore net in India across all languages on opening day, with its India gross collection reportedly touching Rs 140 crore. Released simultaneously in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, the film has now secured the second-best opening for an Indian film, trailing only Dhurandhar 2, which took Rs 103 crore on its day one.

Yash's Rs 100 crore opener streak

With this spectacular debut, Yash has again underlined his extraordinary box office magnetism. Having kicked off the Rs 100 crore opening-day trend with K.G.F: Chapter 2, the action star has now delivered another film in the same elite league. If the upcoming Ramayana also achieves the feat this year, Yash could become the first star to register three Rs 100 crore openers in such quick succession, further cementing his status as one of Indian cinema's most formidable commercial forces.

Stellar ensemble and global action pedigree

Helmed by Geetu DandapaniDirectorial, Toxic boasts an impressive ensemble led by Yash alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth and Huma Qureshi in prominent roles. Akshay Oberoi and Sudev Nair add further weight to the action-packed drama, which fuses Mohandas' distinctive storytelling style with high-octane action and Yash's long-awaited return to the big screen. Adding an international edge to the spectacle, Hollywood action director JJ Perry was drafted in to choreograph key action sequences.

Hard times for 'Awarapan 2'

The arrival of Toxic has taken a heavy toll on competing releases. Awarapan 2, which had been performing well in theatres, suffered a dramatic drop with the new release, with its show count reduced. The Emraan Hashmi film managed only Rs 90 lakh on its day 13, down sharply from Rs 3.75 crore on day 12, and appears set to near the end of its theatrical run. Elsewhere, Batwara 1947 has wrapped up its run with Rs 37.77 crore in India.
