Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed former World Cup winner Hashan Tillakaratne as the batting coach of its Senior Men's Program, effective immediately.
Sri Lanka Cricket have confirmed the appointment of Hashan Tillakaratne as the batting coach of the Senior Men's Program. The 59-year-old former Sri Lanka international will work closely with the national team players at the SLC's National High Performance Center.
A Distinguished Playing Career
Tillakaratne brings a wealth of experience from his distinguished playing days. During his international career, he amassed over 8,200 runs across 83 Tests and 200 ODIs for Sri Lanka. He was also a key member of the iconic 1996 World Cup-winning squad, cementing his place in Sri Lankan cricketing folklore.
Extensive Coaching Pedigree
This is not Tillakaratne's first foray into coaching at the highest level. He has previously served as the batting coach of the national men's team and as the head coach of the women's team. Additionally, he has held the position of head coach of the Bangladesh Women's national team, further broadening his coaching resume across international cricket.
Contract Details
According to SLC, Tillakaratne's appointment takes effect immediately and will run until December 31, 2027. He will be tasked with nurturing and developing the batting talent within the senior men's setup at the National High Performance Center as Sri Lanka looks to build a competitive unit for the years ahead.
