IPL ticket scam leaves Bengaluru techie ₹1.46 lakh poorer before RCB-CSK clash

Fake ticket promise turns into ₹1.46 lakh loss

A 25-year-old technology professional from B Narayanapura, Bengaluru, allegedly lost around ₹1.46 lakh after being targeted by a fraudster posing as an IPL ticket seller on Instagram.

According to his complaint to Mahadevapura Police, the victim was contacted by a person claiming to be Sumit Biswal, who allegedly introduced himself as a senior ticket-counter supervisor at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Biswal reportedly promised to arrange tickets for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru versus Chennai Super Kings match, along with food coupons.

The complainant said he was initially offered two tickets for ₹3,700 each. He was then allegedly asked to make further payments for refundable security deposits, additional identity cards and food coupons. To make the arrangement appear genuine, the fraudster reportedly asked him to meet near gate number 10 of the stadium and sent an email confirmation.

After exhausting his own transfer limits, the techie said he even used his mother’s bank account to make additional payments. The total amount transferred eventually reached approximately ₹1.46 lakh.

The incident highlights the risks faced by fans searching for sold-out IPL tickets through unofficial social-media accounts. Buyers should verify tickets only through authorised platforms and remain wary of requests for repeated deposits or extra charges.
