Sampdoria sack Corradi after Serie B horror start, Giampaolo poised for third spell
Sampdoria pull trigger on Corradi after Arezzo humiliation
Sampdoria have sacked Bernardo Corradi after a wretched start to the Serie B campaign, with Marco Giampaolo the overwhelming favourite to return for a third stint in the dugout at the Ferraris.

The former Italy striker paid the price for Sunday's 2-1 home defeat to Arezzo, a result that left the Blucerchiati rock bottom of Serie B on four points — level with Catanzaro — after taking just four points from their opening seven league games. It was Sampdoria's fifth loss in those first seven matches, and the club's own supporters turned on the team with loud jeers at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Club confirms the sacking
In a brief statement, the club made the decision official:
“U.C. Sampdoria announces that it has relieved Bernardo Corradi of his duties as first-team coach. The club wishes to thank Corradi for the dedication he showed during his time with the Blucerchiati.”
Sampdoria also thanked assistant coach Massimo Mutarelli and technical collaborator Stefano Fiore, adding that the new coach and staff “will be announced in the coming hours”.
Giampaolo the clear favourite
According to Corriere dello Sport, Giampaolo is the clear favourite and would be returning for a third spell. He previously coached Sampdoria in Serie A from 2016 to 2019 and again from January to October 2022. He was most recently in charge at Cremonese, where he replaced Davide Nicola in March. Nicola, in turn, took over at Venezia last week.
