Ronaldo handed 30-day Portugal ban and €255 fine after Jorge Jesus row

Ronaldo suspended for 30 days over Jesus comments

Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended from Portugal duty for 30 days and handed a small fine of just €255 for his explosive comments about coach Jorge Jesus, the Portuguese Football Federation has confirmed.

The 41-year-old left the Portugal squad last month and subsequently claimed Jesus had "broken his word". He then released a long statement in which he explained why he felt wronged, though he admitted he had made a mistake and should receive a punishment.

Return possible for Nations League

Jesus has left the door open for Ronaldo to return to action for Portugal in next month's Nations League games. Portugal host Denmark on November 14 before facing Wales three days later.

The Portuguese Football Federation did not confirm when Ronaldo's ban starts.

Record-breaking career

Ronaldo has scored 981 career goals and is the highest-scoring player in the history of international football.
