Wealdstone cruise past Gateshead 4-0 to pile pressure on Lee Cattermole
Wealdstone delivered a comprehensive 4-0 victory over struggling Gateshead at Grosvenor Vale, deepening the woes of manager Lee Cattermole whose team remains rooted to the bottom of the National League table.

Gary Waddock’s Wealdstone side took control in the first half when Olufela Olomola broke the deadlock, followed swiftly by a second as Luke Norris coolly converted from the penalty spot. A third goal arrived within two minutes of the restart, before the hosts sealed a resounding four-goal rout in the closing stages.
Cattermole's Tough Approach Under Strain
The result marks another bleak afternoon in Cattermole’s first senior managerial role. Gateshead have managed just one win from their opening 10 matches, having already suffered a humiliating six-goal first-half blitz against Southend United the week prior.
In an effort to arrest the decline, Cattermole had adopted an uncompromising "bomb squad" strategy, exiling eight players to train separately from the first team and removing them from squad group chats. However, the tactics have yielded little on the pitch.
Gateshead handed a debut to Northern Ireland international midfielder Alfie McCalmont, who joined in midweek following a spell with Australia's Central Coast Mariners. Despite a bright start in midfield backed by approximately 100 travelling supporters who made the 278-mile journey, the visitors rapidly deteriorated after falling behind.
Frustration in the Away End
Frustration boiled over in the away section as chants of "sacked in the morning" and "time to go" echoed towards the Gateshead dugout during the second half. Cattermole’s assistant, Ben Clark, handled post-match media duties following the heavy defeat.
"We conceded a soft goal, and struggled from there on in," Clark said. "The lads are struggling a bit with their confidence."
While Wealdstone celebrated a much-needed three points to climb clear of immediate danger, Gateshead's continued struggles leave Cattermole's managerial tenure hanging precariously in the balance.
