Verbal agreement reached for summer 2027 arrival

Barcelona have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Turkish club Fenerbahce to sign goalkeeper Dominik Livaković for around €4 million in total.

Transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano said: ‘Barcelona have reached a verbal agreement for Dominik Livaković to join from Fenerbahçe, here we go! €2m initial fee, €2m add-ons. Plan to sign Livaković as backup goalkeeper from June 2027 when Szczesny leaves. This season, Livaković will go out on loan.’

Plan for the goalkeeping department under Hansi Flick

The move comes as Barcelona look to reinforce the goalkeeper ranks under first-team boss Hansi Flick ahead of the 2027/28 campaign. Deco and the Camp Nou brass are targeting a replacement for Wojciech Szczęsny with a view to 2027/28, and Livaković has been tipped to fill the post.

Livaković will take over from Wojciech Szczęsny as Joan Garcia’s back-up from next summer. The Croatian will go out on loan for the 2026-27 season and then return to Barcelona next summer and take up his place in the first-team squad.

Szczęsny signed a two-year contract in 2025 and is expected to hang up his boots again at the end of the season. The veteran admitted towards the end of last season that he knows his time at the club is nearly up.

Surplus to requirements at Fenerbahce

Croatian international Livaković is currently considered surplus to requirements at Fenerbahçe, owing to the presence of former Manchester City standout Ederson. Barcelona made use of the opportunity this week to open talks over a potential deal for the 31-year-old.

Livaković is an experienced goalkeeper who has played for Dinamo Zagreb and Girona as well as Fenerbahce during his career. He’s also Croatia’s No. 1 and played for the national team at World Cup 2026 in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
