Gladysz inherits Silverstone F3 Feature Race win after penalties
Maciej Gladysz has inherited victory in the Formula 3 Feature Race at Silverstone after a dramatic series of penalties affected the final results. The ART Grand Prix rookie initially finished fourth on the road but ascended to the top step of the podium following post-race penalties.
The race saw Theophile Nael receive a 10-second time penalty at the chequered flag, which initially promoted Gladysz to third. However, further post-race penalties for Campos Racing's Ernesto Rivera and a disqualification for a technical infringement involving TRIDENT's Matteo De Palo ultimately elevated the Polish racer to his maiden victory in Formula 3.
"This is an incredible feeling," said Gladysz after the race. "I didn't expect to win when I crossed the line in fourth place. The team did an amazing job throughout the weekend, and I'm thrilled to secure my first F3 victory."
The dramatic outcome also meant championship rivals Freddie Slater and Ugo Ugochukwu were promoted to the podium in second and third positions respectively. PREMA Racing's Louis Sharp finished fourth, with TRIDENT's Noah Stromsted in fifth and ART's Kanato Le in sixth.
AIX Racing's Yevan David finished seventh, followed by Van Amersfoort Racing's Hayu Yamakoshi and Rodin Motorsport's Pedro Clerot in eighth and ninth. Campos Racing's Rivera was classified in tenth place following his penalty.
This result marks a significant moment in the 2024 Formula 3 season, with the championship battle continuing to develop through these unexpected developments. The Silverstone weekend concludes the British leg of the Formula 3 calendar.
