Wycombe Wanderers sign ex-England striker Danny Ings

League One outfit lands experienced frontman

Wycombe Wanderers have completed the signing of former Burnley, Liverpool and England striker Danny Ings, adding a proven goalscorer to a squad that is yet to win at home this season.

The 34-year-old began the campaign without a club after spending last season in the Championship with Sheffield United, but managerless League One Wycombe have now become the eighth club of the Winchester-born forward's 17-year professional career.

Ings is available for selection to make his debut for the Chairboys in Saturday's meeting with Reading at Adams Park, where Wycombe are still searching for their first home win of the campaign.

A record of goals at every stop

Ings has netted 122 goals in 434 career appearances, including two last season with Sheffield United. He began his career at Bournemouth before making big-money moves to Liverpool, where he was one of Brendan Rodgers' last signings in the summer of 2015, and went on to represent Southampton, Aston Villa and West Ham United.

The striker also scored once in his three England appearances, netting in a friendly against Wales in 2020.

Fit, sharp and ready for Reading

Wycombe sit 14th in the League One table, having parted company with Michael Duff on 8 September, since when Tom Hounsell has been in caretaker charge. Into that unsettled picture steps Ings, who already knows the building inside out through his former Burnley partnership with Wycombe coach Sam Vokes.

The newcomer has wasted no time embedding himself with his new team-mates.

"Danny joined up with the team on Friday last week," Wycombe director of football strategy and data intelligence Tom Stockwell said. "He has trained with the group since, so we know he's fit and sharp, and ready."

With a debut at Adams Park potentially on the horizon this weekend, Wycombe will hope the veteran striker's arrival provides the spark their season has so far lacked.
