Barcelona hold firm on Rodri valuation after fresh Manchester City rejection

Barcelona have seen a second formal offer for Manchester City midfielder Rodri rejected, but negotiations remain active and the Catalan club are reportedly confident that an agreement can eventually be reached.

According to reports from COPE, Barcelona’s latest proposal of €60 million was turned down by City. The club’s board, led by sporting director Deco, is nevertheless understood to have set a firm ceiling of €70 million in fixed fees for the Spain international.

“Barça’s second offer of €60M to City (has been) rejected. The Blaugrana do not intend to exceed €70M fixed,” COPE reported.

Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs provided a similar account, putting Barcelona’s second bid at around £55 million, or approximately €64 million, and confirming that Manchester City had rejected it as talks continued.

Barcelona accelerated their pursuit after Frenkie de Jong’s long-term injury created a need for midfield reinforcements. Rodri has been identified as the preferred profile, and reports indicate that the player and Barcelona have already reached an understanding over contract terms.

The remaining obstacle is an agreement between the two clubs. Rodri’s contract situation is central to Barcelona’s stance, with the midfielder reported to have less than 12 months remaining on his current deal. Despite the latest setback, negotiations are expected to continue in the coming days.

COPE added that the parties have “no doubt that the deal will go through”, suggesting that the rejection of Barcelona’s second offer has not ended the proposed move.
