Madrid prepares for a new era of Spanish Grand Prix racing

Formula 1 is set to make its debut at Madrid’s purpose-built Madring circuit in 2026, bringing the Spanish Grand Prix to the capital for the first time in the modern era. The event is scheduled for September 11–13, with practice and qualifying preceding the race on September 13.

A hybrid circuit built for speed and spectacle

Madring will combine public roads and private land, giving the venue a blend of street-circuit character and permanent-track facilities similar to the Miami International Autodrome. The 5.416-kilometre layout will feature 22 corners, dramatic elevation changes and straights where cars are expected to reach up to 340kph.

The planned race distance is 308.524 kilometres over 57 laps. As the circuit is making its Formula 1 debut, no race results or fastest lap time are available yet.

La Monumental promises a defining viewpoint

One of the circuit’s standout features will be Turn 12, known as ‘La Monumental’. The semicircular corner will stretch for around half a kilometre and feature 24% banking. Organisers expect approximately 45,000 spectators to watch cars pass through the turn in about six seconds, making it a likely focal point for fans.

Madrid previously hosted Formula 1 near the capital at Jarama, around 30 kilometres north of the city, roughly four decades ago. The new venue is designed to make access easier, with Madring set to be only a short public-transport journey from central Madrid.

A city break alongside the Grand Prix

Beyond the circuit, visitors will have access to Madrid’s museums, art scene, street markets, cafés, tapas bars and open spaces including Madrid Río and El Retiro. The city’s reported abundance of clear days is another attraction for fans planning a September race weekend.
