Formula 1 heads to the new Madring street circuit in Madrid this weekend for the Spanish Grand Prix, with Kimi Antonelli holding a 66-point lead over George Russell but rivals confident the fight is not finished.

Why the title is not over

Antonelli now leads Russell by 66 points, Lewis Hamilton by 76 and Lando Norris by 96 with ten rounds remaining. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff warned against reading too much into Monza, describing it as an outlier track that rewards power unit deployment.

"We must not get ahead of ourselves now, thinking, 'well, we can wait for the upgrade until Malaysia'. We know that it's going to be a big fight in Madrid. Our car hasn't got the performance levels that it has in Monza for the next race," Wolff said.

McLaren boss Andrea Stella said the team's realistic target is to consistently fight for wins, noting the car should suit tracks like Malaysia, Austin and Brazil.

What to expect at Madring

The 3.365-mile layout features 22 official corners and is described by drivers as "Jeddah on steroids". The most talked-about feature is Turn 12, La Monumental, a huge 24% gradient banked corner.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc said: "It's a very, very special corner. It's a corner where I feel in qualifying, we'll have to be very brave because it's going to be on the limit."

Carlos Sainz, a Madring ambassador, predicted safety cars and red flags, comparing the track to Jeddah, Baku and Macau.

"Looking at the track and hearing of what happened in the F3 test, I think we are all expecting safety cars, red flags and yellow flags in qualy and things like this," Sainz said.
