The Family Tree of F1's 11 Teams
The grid is now filled with 11 teams, a number not seen in a decade. Cadillac is set to become the newest member in 2026. The current teams have complex and varied histories, with some being around since the inception of F1.

McLaren
McLaren was founded by Bruce McLaren in 1963 and quickly made a mark in F1, celebrating their first victory in 1968. They have since won over 200 Grands Prix.
Mercedes
Mercedes had an early stint in F1 but withdrew. The current team originated from Tyrell, which underwent multiple rebrands before becoming Mercedes in 2010. They have enjoyed significant success since.
Red Bull
Red Bull's roots trace back to Stewart Grand Prix, founded by Jackie Stewart. After being bought by Ford and renamed Jaguar Racing, it was later acquired by Red Bull in 2004. They have been highly successful since their entry in 2005.
Ferrari
As the only team to have competed in every F1 season since 1950, Ferrari is synonymous with the sport. Despite not winning a constructors' title since 2008, they remain a force.
Williams
Williams was co-founded by Frank Williams and Patrick Head in 1977. They have a rich history, including multiple championships, but have faced challenges in recent years.
Racing Bulls
Racing Bulls, formerly known as Minardi, Toro Rosso, and AlphaTauri, has evolved significantly since its inception. Now known as Racing Bulls, they continue to be a part of the grid.
Aston Martin
Aston Martin first entered F1 in 1959 but withdrew. The current team originated from Jordan, which underwent several rebrands before becoming Aston Martin in 2021.
Haas
Haas is the newest team before Cadillac's entry, debuting in 2016. They acquired assets from Marussia and have been competitive, finishing as high as P5 in the Constructors' Championship.
Audi
Audi is set to enter F1 in 2026 through the acquisition of Sauber. The team has a history dating back to 1993 and has seen various iterations, including being a BMW works team.
Alpine
Alpine's history began as Toleman in 1981. The team has undergone several rebrands, including Benetton, Renault, and Lotus, before becoming Alpine in 2021.
Cadillac
Cadillac is set to join F1 in 2026 with the support of General Motors. They are setting up a new headquarters and will use Ferrari engines initially.
