Barcelona add Monaco striker Folarin Balogun to transfer shortlist

FC Barcelona have added AS Monaco and United States Men's National Team striker Folarin Balogun to their list of potential attacking targets as they urgently search for centre-forward reinforcements, according to reports from L'Équipe and Diario Sport.

Folarin Balogun in action

The Blaugrana have been left severely depleted in the striker department following the summer exits of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, who served as the team's primary options leading the line last season. With Hansi Flick's squad facing a critical shortage through the middle, sporting director Deco and the club's hierarchy have been exploring alternatives across the continent.

While Atlético Madrid's Julián Alvarez remains Barcelona's primary objective, the Madrid side have shown no inclination to negotiate over the Argentine forward. That firm stance has forced the Catalan club to broaden their search, bringing Balogun into serious consideration.

The 23-year-old former Arsenal academy graduate enjoyed an impressive campaign at Stade Louis II, earning AS Monaco's Player of the Season award. He carried that form into international duty with the USMNT at the FIFA World Cup, picking up two Player of the Match awards amidst an eventful tournament run.

Barcelona are not alone in tracking the American international. Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are also monitoring the striker's situation. Balogun has two years remaining on his contract with Monaco, and while the Ligue 1 outfit are open to sanctioning a departure, they are expected to demand a significant fee for a player currently valued at around €50 million.
