Uncertain Future for Emiliano Martinez at Aston Villa Amid Transfer Rumors

Uncertain Future for Emiliano Martinez at Aston Villa Amid Transfer Rumors

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has cast doubt over the future of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, stating, "We have to fix it with him." Martinez was notably absent from the squad in Villa's heavy 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, sparking rumors of a potential transfer. Reports indicate that Manchester United, keen to strengthen their goalkeeping options, are interested in the 2022 World Cup winner.

Emery's cryptic response to questions about Martinez's future raised eyebrows. The manager repeatedly mentioned new signing Marco Bizot, who had a challenging debut, conceding a penalty in the Palace match. "Tomorrow the transfer window finishes, and we are expecting something hopefully to improve the squad. But we keep calm," Emery told Sky Sports. He added, "One of the situations we are speaking about is Emi Martinez, but we will see tomorrow."

Martinez has been a key player for Villa since joining from Arsenal in 2020, making 531 saves in the Premier League. However, Villa's poor start to the season—winless in their first three games—has intensified the need for squad reinforcements. The club has already signed Marco Bizot, Yasin Ozcan, and Evann Guessand, with Emery hinting at further activity before the transfer deadline.
