Shubman Gill Undergoes Crucial Fitness Test Ahead of Asia Cup; India Gears Up for Tournament Opener
Star Indian cricketer Shubman Gill, who holds the titles of India's Test captain and T20I vice-captain, has reached the National Cricket Academy's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru to undergo a vital fitness assessment. Gill arrived in Bengaluru on Friday, August 29th, and is expected to complete his tests within the coming days. Following a successful evaluation, he is anticipated to travel directly from Bengaluru to the UAE, the host nation for the eagerly awaited Asia Cup.

Gill had been unwell, leading to his absence from the ongoing Duleep Trophy, and was recuperating in Chandigarh. After his recovery, he resumed practice in his hometown before making his way to Bengaluru for this critical assessment. His fitness is paramount as India prepares for a challenging tournament.
Squad Assembly and Training Schedule
The rest of the Indian squad is slated to assemble in Dubai on September 4th. Players will be joining from their respective locations, rather than traveling as a single unit. Team management has meticulously planned the first net session for September 5th, likely to be held at the ICC Academy in Dubai. This venue holds positive memories for the team, having been utilized during their successful Champions Trophy campaign.
Opponent Preparations in Full Swing
While India recently concluded a Test series in England, limiting their recent T20 preparations, other participating teams have been actively engaged in their build-up to the Asia Cup. Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the UAE are currently competing in a tri-series in Sharjah, honing their skills and strategies. Sri Lanka is involved in a bilateral series in Zimbabwe, which includes both One Day Internationals and T20Is, providing valuable match practice. Bangladesh recently participated in a T20I series against Pakistan. Furthermore, reports indicate that Oman and Hong Kong have already arrived in the UAE and are playing practice matches, demonstrating their readiness for the tournament.
