R Ashwin Eyes ILT20 After IPL Retirement, Global T20 Leagues on Horizon

In a significant development for the cricketing world, veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin, fresh off his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) and all other forms of cricket, is reportedly setting his sights on the International League T20 (ILT20) in the UAE. Ashwin's potential move to the fourth season of the ILT20, scheduled from December 2 to January 4, could mark a new chapter in his illustrious career.

Sources indicate that Ashwin is expected to register for the upcoming ILT20 auction, with the registration deadline set for September 10 and the auction itself slated for September 30 in Dubai. Organizers of the popular UAE-based T20 league are reportedly already in discussions with the spinner regarding his participation.

If Ashwin joins, he would become a prominent Indian cricketer to feature in the ILT20. While other Indian stalwarts like Robin Uthappa, Yusuf Pathan, and Ambati Rayudu have previously graced the league, Ashwin's inclusion would undoubtedly be a significant draw, elevating the league's profile further.

Ashwin, who has represented India in 282 international matches across all formats and played 65 Twenty20 Internationals, has been a consistent performer in the IPL since its inception in 2009, playing for various franchises. Beyond the ILT20, Ashwin is also reportedly exploring player-cum-coach opportunities in other international leagues. The ILT20 has already attracted a host of international stars, including Alex Hales, Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, and Sunil Narine, among many others. The league comprises six franchises: MI Emirates, Gulf Giants, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Sharjah Warriors, Dubai Capitals, and Desert Vipers. The Dubai Capitals are the reigning champions.
