Trevor Griffin Steps Down as Somerset Women's Head Coach

Trevor Griffin, the head coach of Somerset Women, has announced his decision to step down at the end of the current season. The move comes after a challenging inaugural year in the Tier 1 professional era, with the team finishing at the bottom of the Blast standings and sixth in the 50-over competition.

Griffin, who took on the role in October 2024, had previously enjoyed success with Western Storm, leading them to two Kia Super League titles. Reflecting on his decision, Griffin stated, "It's the right time for the team to hear a new voice and for me to embark on my next chapter." He emphasized the need to recharge before pursuing new opportunities while expressing immense pride in being the first Women's Head Coach at Somerset.

Griffin's coaching career spans multiple high-profile teams, including Sunrisers, Sydney Thunder in the BBL, and London Spirit in the Women's Hundred. Despite stepping down, he remains passionate about coaching and is eager for future challenges. "Somerset will always hold a special place in my heart," he added.

Andy Hurry, Somerset's Director of Cricket, praised Griffin's contributions to elite women's cricket in the region. "Trevor has played a pivotal role as our first professional head coach, leaving a strong foundation for the team's future progress," Hurry remarked.

The announcement comes amid a mixed season for Somerset Women, who were knocked out of the Women's County Cup after a Super Over loss to Durham. Griffin's departure marks the end of an era, with the club now looking ahead to a new chapter.
