Manchester United Intensifies Goalkeeper Search, Considers Martínez Swap or Lammens Bid

Manchester United Intensifies Goalkeeper Search, Considers Martínez Swap or Lammens Bid

Manchester United's ongoing quest for a reliable presence between the sticks has entered a critical phase, with reports indicating a surprising potential swap deal involving Aston Villa's World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez. The proposal could see winger Jadon Sancho heading to Villa Park, as United simultaneously pushes for Belgian stopper Senne Lammens.

The goalkeeping situation at Old Trafford has become a significant concern for manager Ruben Amorim. Doubts reportedly surround André Onana, and Altay Bayındır's early season performances have been shaky. Following yet another goalkeeping error in a recent match against Burnley, Amorim publicly acknowledged the immense pressure and difficulties of the position.

While Senne Lammens remains a primary target, United has made a late approach for Martínez. The Argentine international has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Red Devils, and discussions with Aston Villa are underway. However, the deal for Martínez is described as "complicated," leading to the suggestion of a swap involving Jadon Sancho. Sancho has faced challenges in securing a move this summer due to difficulties in agreeing personal terms, a scenario reminiscent of Marcus Rashford's situation last season.

Senne Lammens has been left out of Royal Antwerp’s recent squads ahead of a proposed move to Man Utd.

Regarding Lammens, United's initial offer was reportedly around £17.3 million, and an improved bid has since been submitted. His current club, Antwerp, is understood to be seeking offers upwards of £20 million for the talented Belgian goalkeeper. Unlike the situation with Martínez, personal terms with Lammens have yet to be finalized. This leaves an opening for Aston Villa, who have reportedly made their own formal approach for Lammens, eyeing him as a contingency plan should Emiliano Martínez depart.
