Chelsea Defender Aaron Anselmino Joins Borussia Dortmund on Loan

Borussia Dortmund has secured the services of Chelsea defender Aaron Anselmino on a season-long loan deal. This marks Dortmund's second signing from Chelsea in as many days, following Carney Chukwuemeka's transfer.

The 20-year-old Anselmino, who will wear the number 28 shirt for Dortmund, could make his debut against Union Berlin this Sunday. He initially joined Chelsea from Boca Juniors last August and spent the first half of the previous season on loan with the Argentine club. Anselmino made his debut for Chelsea as a late substitute in their FIFA Club World Cup victory over Benfica.

The move comes as Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca advised Anselmino to seek more playing time elsewhere. Dortmund, meanwhile, has been experiencing a defensive shortage due to injuries to key players Emre Can, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Niklas Sule.

"I'm very happy about this step. I've been told a lot of good things about the BVB fans and about the size of the club. I'm therefore very happy and am really looking forward to it," Anselmino said.

Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken commented on the signing, explaining the club's need for defensive reinforcements. "Due to the injuries to Emre Can, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Niklas Sule, we were forced to make adjustments at centre-back," Ricken said. "Aaron has already gained first-league experience in his home country and has great potential. It was no coincidence that Chelsea signed him to an extremely long-term contract last summer."

Anselmino becomes Dortmund's fifth signing of the current transfer window. The German club is also reportedly looking to offload several Chelsea players, including Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling, and Ben Chilwell, as Chelsea utilizes five of its six available international loan spots.
