Barcelona May Play First Home Game at Estadi Johan Cruyff Amidst Camp Nou Renovations

Uncertainty looms over Barcelona's return to the iconic Camp Nou as the club explores alternative venues for their first home game of the season against Valencia. The Estadi Johan Cruyff, located at the club's training facility, has emerged as the leading candidate to host the match, tentatively scheduled for September 13 or 14.

The contingency plan comes as renovation work at Camp Nou faces potential delays, raising doubts about whether the stadium will pass the necessary safety inspections in time. La Liga officials have reportedly visited the Estadi Johan Cruyff to assess its suitability, including the potential installation of VAR systems. Despite its modest 6,000-seat capacity, which falls short of La Liga's 15,000-seat requirement for top-flight venues, Barcelona is expected to request an emergency exception, arguing that this would be a one-time measure.

The Estadi Johan Cruyff is next to Barcelona’s training ground.

If Camp Nou remains unavailable for subsequent matches, Barcelona may revisit the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, their temporary home for the past two seasons. However, the Estadi Olímpic is already booked for a Post Malone concert on the date of the Valencia match, complicating the situation further.

A decisive meeting between Barcelona officials and the city council is scheduled to determine the availability of Camp Nou. There is growing speculation within the club that their 2025-26 home season could kick off at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, marking a significant shift from their traditional home ground.
