Rahul Dravid Exits Rajasthan Royals After One Season, Declines Broader Role

Rahul Dravid's tenure as head coach of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) has come to an end after just one season, the franchise announced. The decision follows the team's poor performance in IPL 2025, where they finished ninth with only four wins out of fourteen matches.

In a statement, RR revealed that Dravid was offered a broader role within the franchise but chose not to accept it. The franchise praised his contributions, saying, "Rahul has been central to the Royals' journey for many years. His leadership has influenced a generation of players, instilled strong values within the squad, and left an indelible mark on the culture of the franchise."

Dravid, who joined RR as head coach ahead of IPL 2025, had previously been associated with the team from 2011 to 2015 as a player, captain, and mentor. His return was highly anticipated, especially after he guided India to a T20 World Cup victory. However, RR's 2025 campaign was marred by injuries and close losses, culminating in their worst performance since 2021.

Rahul Dravid will not continue with RR in any capacity

Adding to the challenges, Dravid spent much of the season in a wheelchair due to a foot injury sustained during a club cricket match in Bengaluru. Despite these setbacks, he played a key role in RR's retention and auction strategies for the upcoming IPL cycle, retaining players like Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Riyan Parag.

With Dravid's departure, RR now joins Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants in the search for a new head coach. The franchise, which last won the IPL in 2008, will aim to rebuild with Kumar Sangakkara as Director of Cricket and a revamped coaching staff.
