Maya Weug Dominates F1 Academy Race 2 at Zandvoort, Eyes Championship Lead
Maya Weug Victorious in F1 Academy Race 2 at Zandvoort
Zandvoort, Netherlands – Home crowd favorite and Ferrari-backed driver Maya Weug delivered a masterclass performance to claim a dominant victory in the second race of the F1 Academy weekend at Zandvoort.
Starting from pole position, Weug expertly fended off an early challenge from Ella Lloyd, ultimately crossing the finish line a commanding seven seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. This crucial win marks a significant stride forward in Weug's pursuit of the championship title.

The race saw several shake-ups due to penalties. Alisha Palmowski, who initially held second place, was demoted after receiving a five-second time penalty for a false start. This promoted current standings leader Doriane Pin to the final podium spot. Ella Lloyd's strong start was also impacted by a similar penalty, pushing her down to fourth.
Other notable performances included Tina Hausmann and Nina Gademan securing fifth and sixth places, respectively. Esmee Kosterman made history as the first Wild Card entry this season to score points. Rafaela Ferreira showed impressive climbing, moving from 11th to eighth, while Alba Larsen and Chloe Chong rounded out the points scorers, benefiting from a penalty incurred by Lia Block. Block, who had achieved a podium finish in Race 1, also received a time penalty for a false start after mistakenly occupying another driver's grid slot.
Unfortunately, Red Bull Ford driver and title contender Chloe Chambers was unable to start the race, sidelined by a mechanical issue during the formation lap.
The F1 Academy season promises more thrilling action and is set to resume in Singapore from October 3-5.
