Simeone Calls for Composure Amidst Atletico Madrid's Rocky Start

Madrid, Spain – Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is advocating for a calm approach as his team navigates an uncharacteristic winless start to their LaLiga campaign. With two matches played, Atletico has yet to secure a victory, registering one draw and one loss, marking a historically difficult beginning under Simeone's management.

This is a rare predicament for the club, as they have never commenced a season with three consecutive winless league matches during Simeone's impressive tenure. The last time Atletico endured such a start was in the 2009-10 season, under the guidance of Abel Resino.

Simeone addressed the challenges posed by a bustling transfer period, which has seen ten new players arrive and twelve depart, including key figures like Samuel Lino and Angel Correa. "It's always difficult to give scores to the work being done with so many new people," Simeone stated in a pre-match press conference. "The team has worked well in these matches, with areas for improvement, especially defensively. But anything less than picking up points is not positive, especially in our position. We have to focus on improvements, on continuing to build on what went well and, above all, on staying calm. With the transfer window remaining open until Monday, Simeone has not ruled out further squad adjustments. "As always at the end of the transfer window, we are keeping an eye on everything until the last day," he commented. "I'm completely open at this stage to someone coming in or leaving, always with tension and talking daily with the board to finalise the squad as we need to."

Looking ahead, Atletico prepares to face Alaves, a match where they will need to be wary of Jon Guridi, who has a notable record against them. For Atletico, striker Alexander Sorloth is highlighted as a key offensive threat, having scored 13 goals in 19 LaLiga matches in 2025, a tally surpassed only by Kylian Mbappe in the league.
