Luka Modric Aims to Ignite AC Milan's Confidence and Fluidity After Season's First Win
Modric's Mission: Instilling Confidence and Fluidity at AC Milan
AC Milan has found a beacon of experience in Luka Modric, the Croatian midfield maestro, who has been tasked by head coach Massimiliano Allegri to inject confidence and enhance the team's fluidity. This mandate comes after a challenging start to the 2024-25 season, which saw the Rossoneri clinch their first Serie A victory with a decisive 2-0 win over Lecce on Friday.
Goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic sealed the win, with Modric, a marquee signing following his illustrious 13-year tenure with Real Madrid, providing the assist for Loftus-Cheek's opening goal. This contribution marked a significant milestone, making him the oldest midfielder since the 2004-05 season to register an assist in Serie A. The victory also highlighted an improved defensive solidity, securing Milan's second clean sheet in their last three league games, a stark contrast to their previous form.

Modric, enthusiastic about his new role, shared his commitment to the team's development. "He asked me to help the team move with more fluidity," Modric stated, referring to Allegri's instructions. "I am working to get into shape physically and I hope to be at 100 per cent after the break for international duty. The coach asks me to talk a lot on the pitch, as there are many young players, and they need confidence."
Acknowledging the unique demands of Italian football, Modric is keen to adapt quickly. "I have always watched Italian football, there are a lot of Croatian players here, and I, above all, appreciated Milan," he shared, reflecting on a long-held ambition. "I played many games against Italian teams. I know how organised they are tactically in every phase. I do still need to get used to it, as this is a very difficult league. We need to be on our toes in every match and give everything we've got to win. So far, I am really enjoying what I've seen." His experience and leadership are anticipated to be invaluable as Milan navigates the rigorous Serie A campaign.
