De la Fuente Defends Joan Garcia's Omission from Spain Squad
Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has addressed the omission of Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia from the national squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Despite Garcia’s impressive performances last season, De la Fuente has opted for Unai Simon, David Raya, and Alex Remiro.

De la Fuente clarified that the decision was not influenced by Garcia’s club affiliation, stating, "Players from clubs don’t come here; this is the national team, regardless of the club they come from." He reassured fans, saying, "Joan's time will come, for sure." The squad also sees the return of Rodri and Dani Carvajal, who have recovered from ACL injuries.
Six Barcelona players—Pau Cubarsi, Pedri, Fermín López, Ferran Torres, Dani Olmo, and Lamine Yamal—have been included, though Gavi was forced to withdraw due to injury. De la Fuente also expressed his preference for Spanish players to remain in LaLiga, highlighting its competitiveness.
