Andy Robertson Appointed Liverpool Vice-Captain for 2025-26 Season Under Arne Slot

Robertson Steps Up in Leadership Role

Liverpool Football Club has announced that Andy Robertson will serve as the team's vice-captain for the 2025-26 season. The decision, made by new manager Arne Slot, sees the seasoned left-back take on an enhanced leadership position within the squad, working alongside captain Virgil van Dijk.

Slot described Robertson as the "logical" choice, citing his deep understanding of the club's ethos and his significant contributions over his tenure. "It’s Robbo," Slot confirmed. "He has played here so many years, won the league twice. It was Virgil, Trent, Robbo and Mo last season. Trent left so there are a lot of logical reasons for the decision. He is a very good player, plays many games, knows what it takes, but also knows the culture of the club and the dressing room."

The appointment comes after Trent Alexander-Arnold, who previously held the vice-captaincy, completed a move to Real Madrid. Robertson, who also captains the Scottish national team, brings a wealth of experience and a strong connection to the positive team culture fostered under former manager Jürgen Klopp.

Commitment Amidst Speculation

Robertson's future at Anfield had been a topic of discussion earlier in the summer, particularly with the club's pursuit and eventual signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for £40 million. Despite the increased competition for his position, Robertson publicly reaffirmed his commitment to Liverpool and his desire to fight for his place. He has already made two substitute appearances this season.

As Robertson enters the final year of his current contract, his long-term future with the club will undoubtedly become a key consideration, especially if he continues to face stiff competition for a starting spot. However, his elevation to vice-captain signals the club's continued trust in his leadership qualities and his importance to the squad both on and off the pitch.
