Luis Enrique: PSG's European Triumph Hasn't Changed Ligue 1 Opposition Tactics

Luis Enrique: PSG's European Champion Status Has Not Altered Opposition Tactics in Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has asserted that the club's recent triumph as European champions has not fundamentally altered how Ligue 1 teams approach playing against them. Despite securing their first Champions League title with a dominant 5-0 victory over Inter in May, Enrique observes a consistent defensive stance from opponents.

Addressing the media in a press conference, Enrique remarked, "We're used to playing against teams that defend well against us. We have our own style of play, which means our opponents often sit deep." He further elaborated on this ongoing trend, stating, "I don't think our status as European champions has changed anything. It was already the case before. We're used to it, and we're ready for it."

PSG currently boasts a flawless record in Ligue 1 for the 2025-26 season, securing two wins from their opening two matches. Both victories against Nantes and Angers concluded with a 1-0 scoreline, demonstrating their ability to grind out results against resolute defenses. The Parisian giants are now preparing to face another unbeaten side, Toulouse, this weekend.

Enrique acknowledged the challenge posed by their upcoming opponents, Toulouse, who have also started their season strong with victories over Brest and Nice. He anticipates a difficult away fixture, expecting Toulouse to adopt a deep defensive block. "I expect it to be a difficult match, as it always is away from home. We expect them to sit deep and leave us very little space," Enrique commented, underscoring the importance of securing a win to maintain their early-season momentum.

The analysis also highlighted key player statistics. Yann Gboho was noted for his impressive dribbling prowess for Toulouse, while Fabian Ruiz's recent goal-scoring form for PSG was recognized. Historically, PSG maintains a strong away scoring record, whereas Toulouse has shown a mixed home record when facing the capital club, setting the stage for an intriguing encounter.
